The Brands I'm Supporting on Earth Day

Ubud, Bali 2018

Ubud, Bali 2018

This Earth Day feels a little different. Rather than many of us going about our daily lives mindlessly, to me it feels like people are paying more attention to the world we live in and the impact we can have on it. Despite the heart breaking news across the globe around COVID-19 and the drastic changes we are all enduring, we have seen a light at the end of the tunnel with significant drops in carbon emissions as a result, and if you, like me, have thought that there is a lot to learn from the times we are all living through, a lot can change for the better on the other side of this.

Since the start of this, I have found that I am shopping significantly less in all areas of my life -- my biggest expense currently is groceries, of which I don’t shop for more than once per week in efforts to avoid being around other people, and having to wait in lines wrapped around grocery stores where I am quarantined. I don’t have places to go other than different rooms of the house, with an occasional walk outside, so I am not feeling motivated to shop for clothes. And while I often spend on pieces for my apartment - my constant work in progress - I left the city to quarantine elsewhere over a month ago, so am not tempted to spend in that area of my life either. Since losing my job, I have set restrictions for my personal spending to limit myself to $200 to spend on non-essential items, and I’ve noticed that in doing so, I am taking a lot more into consideration for what I am spending on. Rather than mindlessly scrolling New Arrivals on my favorite websites, I have a list of items in my phone that I add to when I decide I want something. After sitting on it for 2 weeks, I consider a variety of factors to help me decide if I should choose it as one of my “splurges” for the month or not:

  • Is it within my spending limit for this month, and if so, will it be my only purchase of the month or is it only a fraction of my allowance?

  • Is it something I can use now, that I will also be able to use when my lifestyle reverts to (some version of) normal?

  • What void in my life will this purchase solve?

  • What is the cost per use of this product?

  • Is this product sustainable, or will I have to dispose of it or replace it within the next 3 years?

The important thing I remind myself of with these questions, is that these aren’t just questions I ask myself given the current circumstances, but rather a process I try to follow on an ongoing basis to ensure I’m spending within my means, and shopping sustainably in all areas of my life. With all factors considered, below I have compiled some of the best things you can purchase this Earth Day (and beyond) that will satisfy your retail therapy itch, while also making mother nature happy.

Home Decor & Textiles

  • Brooklinen

My favorite bed linens are Brooklinen and best of all, they always have Mother Nature in mind with their sustainable textiles and linens. My bed has been clad in Brooklinen for a few years now and I wouldn’t choose any other linens to tuck into each night — which reminds me that it’s about time I refresh with a new sheet set myself! Use code MORGAN20 for $20 off all orders over $100.

  • The Little Market

The Little Market has such unique and fun finds for all parts of your life, but I especially love their decor. I recently turned to The Little Market in search of a new hamper, and love how all of the products on their site are ethical and sustainable.

  • Etsy

While Etsy can be a black hole, I have a handful of favorite Etsy shops for vintage and antique finds, which supports small businesses and gives new life to old treasures. DM me on Instagram for some of them :)

Clothing

  • Naadam

While you’ve probably heard me talk about Naadam cashmere several times by now, one of my favorite parts of Naadam is their sustainability efforts not just today but always. Use MORGAN20 20% for off your order when you shop through the link here.

  • Dear Universe

Dear Universe was started by a good friend of mine with the mission of supporting causes that we are all passionate about. They launched today with their #DearUniverseGreen t-shirt, and for every tee sold, 10 trees will be planted in the United States.

  • Reformation

Reformation is a go-to brand for me for dresses, swimwear, and basics alike. Their clothing is sourced sustainably with the mission to create clothes that we love without cutting corners that have long-term repercussions.

For the Kitchen

  • GoPure Pod

I will often say that my GoPure pod is my favorite product. This $25 pod purifies your water to remove impurities and contaminants for up to 264 gallons per pod. I have one in my water pitcher that lives in my fridge, and one that I switch out for my water bottles for on-the-go. For Earth Day, all pods are 25% off, and you can opt-out of the packaging for an even more sustainable option.

  • Glass Tupperware

Pyrex glass tupperware for all of those leftovers from the recipes you’re cooking while in quarantine. Since removing as many plastics from my life as possible, my tupperware was one of my first transitions. Aside from it being the obvious choice for your food storage, aesthetically it looks so much better, and lasts so much longer than the plastic alternatives. I purchased my Pyrex from Crate & Barrel.

  • Greenpan Cookware

With all the cooking happening now, there’s no better time to switch to eco-friendly cookware. Greenpan Cookware is chic (read: it looks great for storing on your stove if you, like me, have minimal storage in your kitchen), high-quality, and doesn’t release toxins into your healthy recipes. Shop Greenpan on Goop.

On-The-Go

  • MZ Wallace

MZ Wallace bags are my go-to for everything from commuting to work, going on grocery runs, and traveling. Their bags last forever and are so chic.

  • Package Free Shop

Package Free Shop sells some of my favorite products with the mission of “making the world less trashy” with sustainable products and minimal packaging. For Earth Day, they are offering 25% off sitewide, 40% off of subscriptions, and free shipping.

  • Healthy Human Water Bottles

My biggest pet peeve when going to workout classes and/or traveling is the number of plastic water bottles I see. Switching to a reusable water bottle is one of the easiest and most impactful habits you can take on. Plus, water ALWAYS tastes better in glass or stainless steel. My go-to reusable water bottle is Healthy Human, and for Earth Day, they’re offering 20% off sitewide.

Skincare & Beauty

  • Caudalie

Caudalie is my all-time favorite skincare brand, because their products are clean, smell amazing, and do wonders for my skin. • Ilia

Ilia’s beauty products give you the glowy, au natural look, without the crap that is in many beauty products that we often consume. Shop Ilia on Sephora during the Sephora sale, and save up to 20% with code SPRINGSAVE. (Rouge members: 20% off from 4/17-5/1, VIB members: 15% off from 4/21-4/29, Insider members: 10% off from 4/23-4/27)

  • Reusable Cotton Rounds

I recently switched from cotton rounds to reusable fabric rounds to create less waste and I have been loving them. You can purchase from Package Free Shop with 25% off sitewide for Earth Day.
